The Author

Greetings! My name's Artika and I'm just a typical Singaporean teenager. I will be turning 18 this October 23rd and attending Ngee Ann's School of Health Sciences (Nursing) this April. People say I'm sensitive, insecure and hard to be with. I say there's more to a person than just a third party's judgement.

It's really a shame that the best people in the world are smokers. Like what the tittle said, smoking isn't an art. It's an awful addiction. It's a type of drug, a shortcut to"happiness". Well, it isn't. It brings more problem to your life. The fact that smoking one cigarette reduces one day of your life still doesn't stop smokers from not smoking. There's so many things one can do with the money used to buy a packet of cigarettes. I can actually treat myself to a movie with that money.

I'm not trying to offend anyone here. But I'm sure at least some non smokers might agree with me here. I have to admit that most of my friends are smokers, at sixteen, and those friends are usually the ones who gives the best advice and such. I'm not saying that I'm ashamed to have friends who are smokers, I'm just saying that sometimes it makes me feel embarrassed to be around these people as their smokers and I'm not. It makes me feel like a "runt". They're usually around rowdy people and the other friends whom I actually hang out with are usually decent people.

Once again, I don't want to offend others and I'm sorry if I ever did in this post. I just got to know that another one of my friends had been smoking for quite some time and it's a sad thing that none of us can do anything about it. But whatever it is, the fact that some of my friends are smokers may not change the way I see them. I'd still respect them for not smoking in front of me :)
